Not all stainless steel can be polished to a mirror finish! 304/316 stainless steel is more suitable than 201 (201 is cheaper but easily oxidizes and yellows). Looking for the best value? Buy our pre-polished stainless steel directly, saving several steps!
Coarse grinding (scar removal): Start by using an 80-400 grit belt sander to "scrub" away weld marks and scratches.
Fine grinding (smoothing): Switch to 600-1500 grit sandpaper for a "fine care" treatment. The finer the scratches, the brighter the mirror finish.
Fine polishing (polishing): Use a wool wheel and polishing paste to rub vigorously until the surface is mirror-like (this is the standard procedure for mirror-finish stainless steel!).
Even with mechanical polishing, small pits will still remain on the surface. Electrolytic polishing chemically dissolves away uneven surfaces, creating a smoother surface that resists fingerprints and stains. While it's a bit pricey, it's typically used in high-end interior design and medical equipment.
Maintenance is the real challenge. Stainless steel mirrors are delicate, and frequent handling can leave fingerprints. We recommend adding a nano-anti-fingerprint coating (PVD process) for a hassle-free, effortless clean.
Many "8K mirror finishes" on the market are actually 6K effects and marketing jargon. A true mirror finish requires professional testing (Ra ≤ 0.05μm). Want to save time? Simply purchase our pre-made mirror-finished stainless steel, which comes with a factory-proven high-gloss finish!
Want a sample for actual testing? Contact us anytime! Mirror-finish stainless steel isn't magical; it depends on the craftsmanship and professionalism of the supplier.
